Most people are shy of this element, called stairs. They see it as an element in the space that must be there only because it is necessary and the accepted way to get from one floor to another.
I treat the stairs as an interesting and important design, a sculptural element in the space.
When I design a new house with levels, one of my first thoughts in planning is "where to place the staircase."
The location of the staircase, its size, and its shape affect many factors and all the levels it reaches, so it should be taken into account from the beginning.
There are many stairs: floating, suspended, spiral, trapezoidal, straight, etc. And the choice of type has to be adapted specifically to each project, depending on the space and size at our disposal, the style of the residents, their vision, and the general appearance style of the house.
The stairs can be made of different and diverse materials, combining materials to create a bulky and heavy look or floating and light. It all depends on the look we want to produce and our budget.
Stairs can be made of concrete, wood, metal, steel, marble, floating, or cast, combined with cables or glass - there are countless options, and the sky is the limit.
I won't bore you with the calculation formula and terms like height, surface, and landing. But you must understand that a flight of stairs requires architectural planning, meticulous details, and an engineer's approval. Everything is carried out according to a standard anchored in the planning and construction law. The planning must be carried out according to laws and standards that meet your safety.
The stair railing also has an important and central effect - apart from its assistance in protecting against falls and going up and down the stairs, it gives us another dimension. It forms an integral part from a design point of view.
